I would describe my sense of humour as a little wicked, my wife would say, a little weird but it has gone a long way in helping me to produce the Ginger Furry Pussy Cat (GFPC) series of Children’s books. I’ve been writing for more years than I care to remember and the books are a product of some of my amusing experiences during my well-travelled life. There’s more to come too.

I am self-publishing my books and when I started was not prepared for the minefield I was to experience. I wouldn’t change it but there were times when I wished I had gone through an established publisher and sometimes I’m still tempted. ISBN numbers, barcodes, advertising, getting the books into stores is a bit like unravelling wool underwater or playing snooker in a storm at sea, what a learning curve and I have only scratched the surface.

The fact is I love writing and creating my own illustrations, the rest is just something you have to do. If you’re thinking of doing something similar, I would start by talking to someone with experience, definitely those in the trade, sellers, publishers (always willing to help) and Nielsen Book data who can guide you all the way of you wish’
